2014 FERSEN AWARD FOR DIRECTION

A dinner between four old friends, a talking blackbird, a rare bottle of Merlot. It should have been a pleasant evening, but things don't always go as expected... The ambiguous story of a glass of Merlot is a game of couples breaking up, a metaphor for the crisis that affects a man and a woman when the marital bond becomes tangled, a knot that no comb can untangle, and then a radical break becomes inevitable. Ambiguity is the undisputed protagonist of a story in which the blackbird, a new sacrificial lamb, serves as a mirror to the four protagonists, their resentments, their most hidden desires, their fears, their fragilities, and their neuroses. A mirror of the times where truth suffers: poorly concealed, mistreated, and fragmented.

First staged at the Fabbrica del Vapore (Milan) under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan on 12-14 December 2013, directed by Luca Busnengo, it was awarded the Fersen Prize for Directing 2014.

SYNOPSIS
Fabrizio, in a state of shock, goes to Giulia, his lawyer, to tell her the absurd story that happened the night before. His wife, Nadia, in the middle of a dinner with Paolo and Fiorella, old friends, ran off with Paolo, taking with her a rare bottle of Merlot and Aishwarya, known as Aisha, Fabrizio's beloved blackbird.
While Fabrizio relives the turbulent end of his marriage, Giulia, suffering from serious but hilarious memory lapses, listens, meditates, and tries to bring her friend-client back to reason in a rapid and farcical exchange of back-and-forth.
